Move from PC to Mac?

November 2, 2007 | 159 Views | Leave a Comment

I’ve been to PowerMac last week. And I saw the 13-inch MacBook. Perfect for me who’s always on the go. Uhmm. Well, I haven’t decided yet. But I’d like to get myself a new one which I can bring anywhere I want. Coffee shops, mall, vehicles and Mars. I mean it.

Reasons:

  • everyone in designs uses it
  • the iPhone
  • they said once you go Mac, you’ll never look back
  • less frequent crashes in handling programs
  • I’m tired of installing/updating Antivirus and Firewalls
  • back to My Mac
  • Sync - perfect harmony
  • iDisk - personal HDD online

Reasons for hesitations:

  • interface, I’m sure it will take time for me to get to use to it even I was once a mac technical support
  • program compatibility for my current softwares
  • 1-button mouse

I’m not getting another HP anymore. I might not move from PC to Mac. But I will make sure it will NOT be an HP. I will probably make a confession about my 17-inch HP Laptop once I get my new notebook.

Pinoyblogosphere is a commitment

I’ve been watching movies for 5 days straight with dyu. And I’m hoping I’m not gonna watch one tonight. :P

Exactly 365 days ago, I bought the domain Pinoyblogsphere.com. While Pinoyblogosphere is a great joy, it’s also a great commitment. To have some time where commitments just slip away for a while is a fabulous thing. For those who cares to know, PBS was down for a few days because Dreamhost renamed the index file, leaving the files exposed to the public, and imposed restriction to one of our ftp account causing us not to be able to access the files.

At first no one would tell us what was wrong why we couldn’t access most of the PBS files (services) thru one of our ftp accounts. The sites for most of the time would also return internal errors. The other day, someone from them finally admitted that they have imposed a restriction. They could have just told us right away. So we shouldn’t have wasted our time figuring out what’s wrong on our end. They said, one wrong move and they will disable the account P-E-R-M-A-N-E-N-T-L-Y. That really made me and dyu worry.

Dreamhost claimed that our site was crashing their server. Affecting a hundred other customers. I find it hard to believe. How could a simple script calling for a image 10.3 kb file, similar to hotlink, made their server overload and crashed? I really don’t get it. We have GB’s of storage capacity and TB’s of bandwidth allocation.

The first time this happened was when they said our TopSite crashed their server and they disabled it. We are told not to run it again, otherwise they will disable our account. And so we obeyed them. The site was still up but there were no longer database processing on it. The bloggers who were using the script from the topsite are still getting a pbs chicklet, but it was just a small badge… a plain 10.3 Kb image . We heard no problem and so we thought everything was fine until last week.

Their recommendation was for us to get a Private server from them.  Why would I do that? We’re thinking of moving to another host. PBS will shut down some of its services to save it’s main services such as the group blog, forum etc. We hope you can bear with us until we are able to move to a new home. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. I thought then that Dreamhost is a good host but I am very very frustrated about this whole incident.

We are not just ready for the move, but who knows waht will happens next? Another thing, dyu is leaving for U.S.  this year or January. And it’s making everything more complicated.

Is this a dream or a nightmare? Tell me?

Applying the contact lenses

November 1, 2007 | 200 Views | Leave a Comment

Today, I applied my lenses by myself. Gord, it was hard but it only took me about a minute or two. First, I made sure my hands are clean. I placed the lens on the tip of my index and my middle finger was pulling down my lower lid while my fingers on my other hand were pulling up my upper lid. I gently placed the lens on my eye, rolled and then blink to help the lens settled. And that was it. Easy! Lol.
